Review of Sennelier Oil Pastels Still Life Set - 24 Oil Pastel
SENNELIER OIL PASTELS
artist or student grade - Artist Grade Quality - Excellent # of colours in the line - 120 lightfast rating - yes opinion blending - these pastels are extrememly smooth and creamy, almost like lipstick. pigment concentration - very high smooth/hard - extremely smooth crumbling? - none Pros - These oil pastels are gorgeous and creamy. They are very smooth and easy to blend. They are a real joy to work with. Their high pigment concentration lends well to creating that nice painterly effect, allowing one to easily apply thick layers of color where they wish and thinner more blended layers of color. Each pastel comes wrapped in paper with the product number and the color written on the bottom. There are also little serrations to allow one to easily remove a section of paper as they get worn down. Of course this will also cause the product information to be lost. I think it is important to make a color chart of these pastels (actually I think people should make color charts of all their art supplies), so that when the paper no longer has the product information on it, you can just compare the color you want to replace, with your color chart, so you know which color to order. Cons - They have a bit of a slippery consistency. They are pretty darn expensive. I bought the Still life set with 24 oil pastels. There are a lot of browns and greys and quite a few interesting colors but I found it was an odd color selection for a still life set. Even so the colors are gorgeous and I will definitely find uses for these pastels. I do find the Senneliers a bit too soft so I may look into trying Neopastels next, I have heard a lot of good things about them. Check out my oil pastel comparison chart here. Color Chart of my Sennelier Still life 25 oil pastel set. i also included 3 iridescent colors that I had bought, they are not in the still life set. Just wanted you to be aware of that. |
