Tiny Snowflake Crochet Pattern

These tiny snowflakes are easy and fun to make and perfect to give as gifts to friends and family. Follow this free pattern, crochet a lot of these cuties and use them as ornaments for the Christmas tree, pretty window decorations or holiday gift toppers.
This snowflake is crocheted with cotton thread size 10 and a 1,5 mm crochet hook. Its final size is 7,5 cm (3 inches) in diameter. You can change the size of your snowflakes by using different yarn weights and hook sizes. You will also need a needle to weave in loose ends and a pair of scissors.
If you want to stiffen the snowflakes you will need white pva glue (school glue) or your favorite starch, stainless steel pins or toothpicks, plastic wrap and some kind of foam/blocking board.

Instructions
Ch 8 and join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.

• Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in the ring, * ch 7, 3 dc in the ring; repeat from * 5 times, ch 3 and join with tr in 3rd ch of first ch3 to create last ch-7 sp of the round.
• Round 2: Ch 7, sl st in 3rd ch from the hook, in same sp work (dc, ch 1, dc), * in next ch-7 sp work (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from the hook, ch 1, dc, ch 6, sl st in 4th ch from the hook, ch 2 **, dc, ch 4, sl st in 3rd ch from the hook, dc, ch 1, dc); repeat from * 5 times and from * to ** once more, join with sl st in 3rd ch of first ch7.

Fasten off and weave in loose ends.

Blocking
You will need white pva glue (school glue) or your favorite starch, stainless steel pins or toothpicks, plastic wrap and some kind of blocking board.
Print out this blocking template . It will help you make your snowflakes symmetrical. Tape it on your blocking board and then cover it with plastic wrap.
Prepare a mix of equal amounts of white craft glue and water or use your preferred stiffening solution.
Soak the snowflake in the solution, squeeze out the excess and spread out the snowflake on the plastic wrap-covered blocking board, having right side facing up. Use stainless steel pins and start by pinning the center. Work your way out pinning as you go until you reach the desired look. While it is still wet, you can sprinkle glitter and make it sparkly. Let dry completely. Remove from the board.
To hang the snowflake, attach a piece of thread, yarn, ribbon, invisible thread or wire.

The stiffening solution will permanently damage your pins, so it’s best to set the used ones aside for use in future starching projects.
