The world champion in ski flights is Slovenian Robert Kranjec. With the best jump in the second series of the airfield in Vukersund, Norway (244 meters), the 30-year-old Kranjec achieved the greatest success in his career, since he has two Olympic bronze medals in major competitions, but in team jumps.
In the first series, Kranjec was third with 217,5 meters and 211,3 points, 3,9 less than Norwegian Runa Velt. However, with the longest flight of his career in the second series, Kranjec reached 408,7 points, while young Velta (217,5 and 234,5) ended up collecting three points less, which was enough for silver.
The bronze was grabbed by the celebrated Austrian veteran, Martin Koch (218 and 243), whose landing mistake cost him a more brilliant medal.
The medal eluded the German Zeverin Freund in fourth place, and he is a great tragedy since he was the best in the competition that was interrupted the day before. A head wind stronger than five meters per second postponed the competition for a day, and Velta was also convincing on Friday with the longest flight, 234 meters.
That's why the silver of 21-year-old Velta is not a surprise, even though he won world silver with his first podium in the individual competition.
The longest flight of the day, a year younger local hope, Anders Fanemel, who landed at 244,5 meters in the first series, which is two meters shorter than the ski jump record set last year by his countryman, Johan Remen Evensen (246,5), was not a surprise. ).
Fanemel failed in the second series with only 179,5 meters, he was 13th in total. For now, Fanemel is grateful only as a team jumper because he still does not have a single podium in his career.
He will wait for his chance tomorrow in the national team competition, and he already won with Norway this season.
