A very fresh and unique spinoff of the SHREK series, PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH is the long-awaited sequel to the 2012 animated hit and the wait was absolutely worth it. This outstanding animated adventure, about the continuing adventures of Puss (Antonio Banderas and that legendary voice) who only has one of his eight lives left after a recent brush with the afterlife. He sets out with his friends to find the mythical Last Wish to restore his life and runs into a lot of fracture fairytale characters along the way.
One of the very best animated movies of 2022, PUSS IN BOOTS goes above in beyond in its desire to entertain and it’s especially important that this movie is for all ages and a great connection to the SHREK series, but stands on its own with its great balance of humour. THE LAST WISH also took a life of its own in the box office with terrific word out of mouth, not just for families and SHREK fans but finding new fans of the series. What a wonderful ride.
About the 4k disc:
WOW. If you are the owner of a 4k machine and love animated movies, PUSS IN BOOTS is an instant purchase and now available to buy on home video. This is one of the most glorious home video presentations I have ever seen in its 2160p, 4k HDR/Dolby Vision glory. My jaw hit the floor almost a minute into watching this again with an incredible array of colours, deep powerful blacks and so much detail for the eyes that I can’t wait to watch it again. The movie uses some animated style that calls back to hand-drawn, water-colours as well as the most advance animation techniques available today.
I saw this twice theatrically and this 4k disc blows it out of the water, matching only a Dolby Cinema presentation in terms of visual quality. Movie theatres are awesome, and yet cinema chains should take a look at this just to see how impressive this transfer is and how movies like this should be shown. There was also a 3D release of THE LAST WISH but none of it compares to seeing it on a big home screen.
In short, this is a reference quality disc and is one of the finest looking movies I have seen on the format to date. Of course I also want to mention that the Dolby Atmos track is loud, fills the room and is especially impressive in its music performances.

Universal is continuing its move with not including digital copy codes on their releases, which is a shame as I would love to see how the Google Play 4k transfer compares. This is my only complaint against what is otherwise an outstanding release that belongs on every 4k disc shelf.
