'I had 12 years of worrying': Katie Melua reveals her fertility fears before welcoming baby son - as she details finding 'magical' love after going through divorce

She welcomed her first child, a baby boy named Sandro, back in December.

And Katie Melua has now opened up on her fertility fears ahead of giving birth at age 38, admitting that she had worried it wouldn't be an option.

The singer revealed this week that she was hoping for children from the age of 26 but didn't end up giving birth until 12 years later - after trying for a child didn't work out and left her wondering if fertility was an issue.

After previously being married to World Superbike racer and musician James Toseland, she found love again with the father of her child, whose identity remains private, following their 2020 divorce.

Talking this week with HELLO!, Katie shared that finding love following the heartbreak has been 'magical'.

Chatting with the publication on becoming a mother, the What A Wonderful World singer shared: 'I wanted to have a baby from about the age of 26 and I had him when I was 38, so that's a good 12 years of worrying.

'There was a period of trying and that didn't work out. I thought fertility was maybe an issue,' candidly continued the musician.

Katie described Sandro as 'the biggest sunshine' in her life as she detailed settling into life as a mother.

Despite keeping the identity of her partner ferociously private, she has openly shared her joy at finding love with him again.

Admitting that she had doubts about finding someone else following her split from husband James, the new mother explained: 'I thought maybe monogamy isn't for everyone'.

But the pieces came together when she met her now-partner, with Katie sharing: 'I slid into the best years and times of my life. He’s an incredible person, super down-to-earth and super relaxed and chilled. It's been amazing.

'It's difficult to talk about it because you can sound really cringe but it has been magical and every day gets better and better. I wanted to capture the moment. First my uncertainty and then how very natural our love feels.'

Katie announced the birth of Sandro via Instagram in December, sharing a heart-warming post which included pictures of her son's feet, and part of his face.
