Bradley Cooper’s Academy Awards Losing Streak Stretches Into The Double Digits

Following

Bradley Cooper’s misfortunes at the Oscars continued Sunday night in Los Angeles as the actor-filmmaker lost bids to win Academy Awards in the three categories in which he was nominated for with his Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro.

With his losses as one of the producers of the Best Picture nominee — along with Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay — Cooper’s Academy Awards losing streak stretches into the double digits to give him an 0-12 record at the Oscars. Oppenheimer won the Best Picture Oscar at the 96th annual Academy Awards, while the film’s lead, Cillian Murphy won the Best Actor statuette and the dramatic courtroom thriller Anatomy of a Fall won the Best Original Screenplay statuette for co-writers Justine Triet and Arthur Harari.

Cooper isn’t the only hard-luck kid with multiple Oscar losses

Bradley Cooper had nine consecutive Oscar losses going into Sunday night’s Academy Awards. Previously he came up short in his bids for Oscar glory with losses in the Best Actor races for Silver Linings Playbook, American Sniper and A Star is Born, and in the Best Supporting Actor category for American Hustle.

In addition, Cooper lost out on chances to win the Best Picture Oscar as a producer for the nominees American Sniper, Joker, Nightmare Alley and A Star is Born. Including Maestro, Cooper has never been nominated for a Best Director Oscar. Cooper made his debut behind the camera with A Star is Born.

As tough as Cooper’s 0-12 record at the Academy Awards might seem, he’s not the only hard-luck kid with no Oscar wins. Sound designer Greg P. Russell is 0-16 in attempts to win an Oscar, and songwriter Diane Warren fell to 0-15 with her Best Original Song loss Sunday night to the Barbie tune What Was I Made For.

Warren’s loss this year likely stung a lot less than before, considering the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded the songwriting great an honorary Oscar in November of 2023 for her longtime contributions to film.
