New decorating book by Candice Olson

The new book by HGTV star Candice Olson is chock full of design solutions for every room in the house.
The owner was looking for a comfortable yet sophisticated look for herself and her young daughter. For the living room, Olson placed the television up and out of the child's reach on a storage system. Slipper chairs can be moved around according to the family activities. Olson added track lighting to lend light to this part of the room.
This townhouse living room was designed to showcase the art belonging to the owners. Olson used a streamlined sectional sofa to shape the space. She positioned it to open toward the entrance to the room so that it would create a welcoming effect.

A new book showcases the work of designer Candice Olson, who is known to viewers from her HGTV shows “Candice Tells All” and “Divine Design with Candice Olson.”

“Everyday Elegance,” just published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt ($20), features many of her room makeovers, along with her reasoning in making design choices.

Anyone interested in design can learn from Olson’s thoughts on connecting spaces throughout a house with color or design elements, use of lighting to open dark corners, and positioning furniture to make a room welcoming and comfortable – and much more.

Organized as challenges and solutions, the book makes for fun reading and offers lots of ideas for making our spaces brighter, more comfortable and elegant.
